Has Rick Warren's "The Purpose Driven Life" fad destroyed your church?
You are not alone. Sadly, over
20,000 congregations across the United States, with more
being added, have embraced what is arguably the worst
heresy to grip Christianity since Gnosticism. There is
no corner of the United States unaffected by this new
method for "doing church." Rick Warren's "The Purpose
Driven Life" is a 20 million bestseller. Warren's
appearances on "Larry King Live," "Dateline," and other
media along with his column in the "Ladies' Home
Journal" place him in the world spotlight.
"The Purpose Driven Life" and the 40 Days of Purpose
campaigns have seduced nearly all denominations,
including the Southern Baptist Convention, and have all
but taken over the Assemblies of God. Even Roman
Catholics and Latter Day Saints (Mormons) look to Rick
Warren for leadership, and have implemented Purpose
Driven materials into their congregations. WOE UNTO
YOU IF YOU DARE CRITICIZE OR CHALLENGE THE WORD OF GOD'S
ANOINTED, Pastor Rick Warren. Saddleback Community
Church and Rick Warren are formidable. Warren has
received favorable press from Newsweek magazine as among
the 100 most influential philanthropists of the 21st
century, and he stands as the most popular religious
leader in the United States. Few rank-and-file pastors
and clergy can challenge him, as Warren's methods are
proven effective for church growth in a postmodern era
of declining church membership rolls.
Denominations are pressuring their pastors to grow
congregations, or else. Warren's methods work in
growing congregations to the size of shopping malls. His
techniques are pragmatic, with no regard for doctrinal
teaching to get in the way. Traditionalists who value
doctrinal truth and solid sermons with biblical
exegesis more than enormous church size are the
casualties of "The Purpose Driven Life." Warren is
pushing nothing more than pop psychology and subjective
emotionalism that has nothing to do with biblical
theology.
I need to hear from ANYONE who has been adversely
affected by this movement. Your pastor has embraced
seeker-sensitivity in order to appeal to a postmodern
touchy-feely low I.Q. mentality that values feelings
over reason and logic. The Bible is not preached and
expounded upon. You feel abandoned and ignored. I WILL
NOT IGNORE YOU!
I urge you to share your stories on the forum topic
section of this site.
If you are in the Columbia Basin and Inland Empire area
of Washington State including Spokane, Lincoln, and
Adams Counties and if you desire an alternative to the
Warrenification of Christianity, I invite you to worship
with us at
New Hope Center church . You may not be
able to get your church back, but you can possibly begin
anew with us. I do not know what the short term future
holds for us "holdouts" who don't buy into this fad, but
we can begin by sharing our stories. We may not be able
to stop the Purpose Driven heresy dead in its tracks,
but I've taken a decisive stand against it in our
congregation.
Again, YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN YOUR FRUSTRATION AND ANGER.
I am on your side. I'm here to listen.
Rev. Richard Lee, J.D., M.Div.
